Analytical method for the determination of o-toluidine
Translation of DGUV Information 213-549 (former BGI 505-49 or ZH1/120.49)
CAS Number: 95-53-4
A valid analytical method for the determination of o-toluidine is currently only available in German:
Analysenverfahren zur Bestimmung von aromatischen Aminen (DGUV Information 213-583).
Method 01 – GC – withdrawn
Sampling with a pump and adsorption on silica gel. Gas chromatography after desorption.
For the assessment of working areas, both personal and stationary sampling are possible.
Principle
With a pump a measured air volume is drawn through a glass tube filled with silica gel. The adsorbed o‐toluidine is then desorbed with methanol and determined by gas chromatography.
Limit of quantification (LOQ)
Absolute: 0.25 ng o‐toluidine.
Relative: 0.01 mg/m3 o‐toluidine for a 25‐litre air sample, 1 ml elution solution and a 1 µl injection volume.

The complete measuring method is available in the Wiley Online Library: Method for the determination of o-toluidine (Air Monitoring Methods, Volume 7, 2003).
