Analytical method for the determination of thiourea

Translation of DGUV Information 213-569 (former BGI 505-69 or ZH1/120.69)

CAS Number: 62-56-6

Method 01 – HPLC

Sampling with a pump and collection on a filter, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) after elution.

This method permits the determination of thiourea concentrations in working areas averaged over the sampling time after personal or stationary sampling.

Principle

A pump is used to draw a measured volume of air through a glass fibre filter, taking into account the definition of inhalable dust fraction. The collected thiourea is eluted with water and determined by liquid chromatography.

Limit of quantification (LOQ)

Absolute:  0.58 ng thiourea.

Relative:

personal sampling: 1.73 µg/m3 for a 1.68 m3 air sample, 100 mL elution solution and an injection volume of 20 µL

stationary sampling: 0.64 µg/m3 for a 45 m3 air sample, 1000 mL elution solution and 20 µL injection volume.
