Analytical method for the determination of bromomethane

Translation of DGUV Information 213-580 (former BGI 505-580)

CAS Number: 74-83-9

Synonym: Methyl bromide

Method 01 – GC – limited suitability: category E2

Sampling is carried out with a pump and adsorption on ChromosorbTM 106. Analysis is performed by gas chromatography after thermal desorption.

This measuring method permits the determination of the bromomethane concentration in the air at workplaces with personal or stationary sampling averaged over the sampling time.

Principle

A pump draws a defined volume of air through an adsorption tube filled with ChromosorbTM 106. After thermal desorption, bromomethane is analysed by gas chromatography.

Limit of quantification (LOQ)

Absolute: 0.1 µg bromomethane.

Relative: 0.5 mg/m3 for an air sample volume of 200 mL.

Issue

March 2010

The measuring method is of limited suitability (E2).

The complete measuring method is available in the Wiley Online Library: Method for the determination of bromomethane (Air Monitoring Methods, 2013).
