Analytical method for the determination of bromoethane

Translation of DGUV Information 213-581 (former BGI 505-81)

CAS Number: 74-96-4

Synonym: Ethyl bromide

Method 01 – GC

Sampling with a pump and absorption on ChromosorbTM 106. Gas chromatography after thermal absorption.

This measuring method permits the determination of the bromoethane concentration in the air at workplaces with personal or stationary sampling averaged over the sampling time.

Principle

A pump draws a defined volume of air through an adsorption tube filled with ChromosorbTM 106. After thermal desorption, bromoethane is analysed by gas chromatography.

Limit of quantification (LOQ)

Absolute: 0.15 µg of bromoethane.

Relative: 0.75 mg/m3 for an air sample volume of 200 mL.

Issue

March 2010

The complete measuring method is available in the Wiley Online Library: Method for the determination of bromoethane (Air Monitoring Methods, 2013).
