Translation of DGUV Information 213-536 (former BGI 505-36 or ZH1/120.36)
CAS Number: 1116-54-7
Method 02 – Capillary GC – limited suitability: category E3
Sampling with a pump and collection on an impregnated glass fibre filter, capillary gas chromatography after desorption and silylation
This method permits the determination of N-nitrosodiethanolamine concentrations in working areas averaged over the sampling time after personal or stationary sampling.
Principle
With a pump a measured air volume is drawn through an impregnated glass fibre filter. The N-nitrosodiethanolamine collected on the filter is extracted with ethyl formate. The extract is evaporated to dryness, silylated and analysed in a gas chromatograph with a thermal energy analyser (TEA) detector.
Limit of quantification (LOQ)
Absolute: 0.14 ng.
Relative: 0.035 µg/m3 N-nitrosodiethanolamine for 2 m3 air sample, 0.5 mL sample solution and 2 µL injection volume.
Issue
September 1992
The measuring method is of limited suitability (E3).
The complete measuring method is available in the Wiley Online Library: Methods for the determination of N-nitrosodiethanolamine (Analyses of Hazardous Substances in Air, Volume 4, 1999).
