Analytical method for the determination of sulfuric acid
Translation of DGUV Information 213-568 (former BGI 505-68 or ZH1/120.68)
CAS Number: 7664-93-9
Method 01 – HPIC
Sampling with a pump and collection on a filter, ion chromatography (HPIC) after elution.
This method permits the determination of sulfuric acid concentrations in working areas averaged over the sampling time after personal or stationary sampling.
Principle
A pump is used to draw a measured volume of air through a quartz fibre filter. The collected sulfuric acid is eluted with a sodium carbonate/sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and determined by ion chromatography.
Limit of quantification (LOQ)
Absolute: 50 ng sulfuric acid.
Relative: 0.01 mg/m3 H2SO4 for a 420-litre air sample volume, 4 mL elution volume and 50 µL injection volume.
Issue
August 2001
The complete measuring method is available in the Wiley Online Library: Method for the determination of sulfuric acid (Air Monitoring Methods, Volume 9, 2005a).
