Analytical method for the determination of 4,4'-methylene-bis(2-chloroaniline)

Translation of DGUV Information 213-538 (former BGI 505-38 or ZH1/120.38)

CAS Number: 101-14-4

Method 01 – GC – limited suitability: category E1 and E3

Sampling with a pump and absorption in sulfuric acid. Gas chromatography after sample preparation.

This method permits the determination of 4,4'-methylene-bis(2-chloroaniline) concentrations in working areas averaged over the sampling time after personal or stationary sampling.

Principle

With a pump a measured air volume is drawn through a glass-fibre filter impregnated with sulfuric acid or through three wash bottles in series. After sample preparation, the absorbed 4,4'-methylene-bis(2-chloroaniline) is determined by gas chromatography.

Detection limit (LOD)

Absolute: 11 ng.

Relative: 0.04 mg/m³ 4,4'-methylene-bis(2-chloroaniline) for a 140-litre air sample.

Issue

August 1987

The measuring method is of limited suitability (E1 and E3).

The complete measuring method is available in the Wiley Online Library: Method for the determination of 4,4'-methylene-bis(2-chloroaniline) (Analyses of Hazardous Substances in Air, Volume 7, 2003).
